Delivery of temporary switchgear module

Power + Line was able to take advantage of a line possession on Sunday to help with the delivery to Blackheath of a temporary switchgear module filled with high voltage electrical machinery.

The containerised-type module, which weighs in at a substantial 9 tonnes, was brought to site by a Road Rail Vehicle (RRV) and trailer and positioned by a rail-mounted Kirow crane.

The purpose of the work was to install a temporary switchgear module designed to provide electricity to the railway line while work is undertaken to upgrade the permanent supply. The key tasks were to ensure that the site was ready to receive the module when it arrived, to install the module safely, and to ensure that the existing HV cables serving the site were protected during the work.
